“I value my friends more than anything and will do everything I can to protect them, but there have been a couple of moments in my life where I’ve gotten in big fights with some of the people I am closest with. I look back on different instances, at different ages of my adulthood, and cringe when I think of times where I didn’t act with kindness and hurt someone else’s feelings.
My therapist has helped me work through these feelings. We’ve analyzed the arguments and accepted where I fell short. We’ve dug deep to understand why I made some of the choices that I did and she helped me find the right words to apologize. She also helped me realize that I am my harshest critic. When I make a mistake, I tend to beat myself up for months on end, even after everyone else is ready to move on. I am still understanding the full effects of my internal self loathing and what it can do to your self esteem. My therapist has helped me be better about owning my mistakes while at the same time learning to love and forgive myself for my imperfections.”
